This weekend, Gerard Butler’s new action movie ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ is going to hit the theaters. The movie has made use of many pyrotechnics like the dramatic implosion of the Washington Monument, explosion of the White House, and the violent death of many bad guys.
However, Butler, who depicted the one-man wrecking crew and the fallen Secret Service agent Mike Banning, saw something more in the movie – nuanced.
In an interview with ‘The Times’, Butler said that the movie was about a person who confronted his demons and finally, sought out his redemption. In the movie, Butler played the role of a man who was ruined by a mistake causing the first lady’s death. According to Butler, anybody could feel the pain that the hero goes through and draw inspiration from the hero’s action to make up his mistakes after getting a second chance.
In the movie, a rouge organization from North Korea has been shown as the villains, which could be really interesting given the rising tension between North Korea and the U.S.
