Chauncey Billups out for season, maybe more
Los Angeles Clippers guard Chauncey Billups is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon, and the former Detroit Piston’s career might be in jeopardy.
Billups was injured in Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic. He is expected to miss at least eight months.
Billups, 35, was averaging 15 points and four assists this season, his first with the Clippers. The No. 3 overall pick in the 1997 draft by the Boston Celtics, is playing for his seventh NBA club and fourth in the last five seasons. One of them was the Denver Nuggets, who dealt him to New York with Carmelo Anthony as part of a three-team, 13-player trade with Minnesota last February.
Billups won the 2004 NBA championship with the Pistons. He was traded to Denver for Allen Iverson in November 2008.
Pistons great Isiah Thomas’ career was ended by a torn Achilles tendon in 1994. He was 33 at the time. (Detroit Free Press)
