Harmac project, bright future for clean energy
Nanaimo Forest Products and BC Hydro agreement is the precise steps for the clean energy production. The agreement between Nanaimo Forest Products and BC Hydro is expected will bring great future for clean energy improvement. Details!!!!!
Harmac project will give clean energy for future
The recent electricity purchase agreement between Nanaimo Forest Products and BC Hydro for biomass generated electricity produced at the Harmac Pacific pulp mill is a great example of how clean energy producers contribute to a sustainable environment.
When used for energy, hog fuel, wood residues and other biomass is considered clean or carbon neutral because it releases no more carbon into the atmosphere than it absorbed during its lifetime.
Once complete, Nanaimo Forest Products’ new turbo-generation unit will produce 190 gigawatt hours of clean energy annually or enough to power over 17,000 homes.
To meet the province’s growing demand for electricity, we need a mix of solutions including energy conservation, reinvesting in our heritage assets, and finding new sources of clean, reliable madeinB.C. energy.
These kinds of projects also encourage energy conservation: under our Integrated Power Offer, pulp and paper mills must invest in energy-efficiency improvements before an electricity purchase agreement is considered. The energy efficiency improvements undertaken at the Harmac Pacific mill will save enough electricity to power nearly 1,000 homes.
BC Hydro now has electricity purchase agreements with 17 biomass projects for almost 3,500 gigawatt hours per year of contracted energy, enough to supply 321,000 homes with power.
This is one of the ways we are investing in BC’s clean energy future. (Doug Little – The Daily News)
