The former richest tycoon of Indonesia Lie Sioe Liong or widely known as Soedono Salim has passed away at the age of 95 on Sunday afternoon in Singapore. One of his sons Suheng Widodo has confirmed the news of his death. He was the creator of the famous Salim Group of Indonesia and Centarl Bank Asia (BCA). He dominated the region of Southeast Asia over the past decades as an iconic business personality.

Liem was well known for his close alliance with the late president Soeharto. During the new order administration, he was able to earn the favor of Soeharto. Many people believe that much of his success was earned due to the late president’s protection. Liem settled in Singapore after the May disturbances that unsettled the position of Soeharto in 1998.

Gita Wirjawan, Trade Minister of Indonesia, has talked in high tone about Liem for his success in bringing local goods to the global audience.

According to the latest news, his remains were in Mount Vernon Funeral Parlor in Singapore. The details of memorial service will be announced later on.
