Actor Will Smith and his son Jaden will be seen together in the upcoming sci-fi movie ‘After Earth’. The movie’s story is based on the serious changes that the Earth will be gone through the next 1,000 years.
On April 23, the ‘After Earth’ stars joined in a ‘Google+ Hangout’ with Alexandra Cousteau, futurist Ray Kurzweil, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, and a group of students to talk about the possible look of the Earth in the next millennium. This Columbia Pictures-sponsored event has come just a day after the ‘Earth Day’.
Kurzweil, one of the moderators of the discussion and Google’s director of engineering, said that besides providing great entertainment, the movie pointed toward some profound issues.
Columbia Pictures released a description of the movie. It focuses on our Earth’s condition after 1,000 years. A father and his son, played on screen by will and Jaden, crash-land in the future Earth and find a deserted Earth left by human beings to overrun by unfriendly species.
Will said in the discussion that during the shooting of the movie, he and his son somewhat realized how human activities affect the planet. He added that during their shooting in Costa Rica, he saw some true beauties in the world and at the same time, understood the importance of saving the world.
Filmmaker Alexandra Cousteau explained the vulnerable position of the earth but at the same time, uttered belief that a new generation can change the condition by using technology and enthusiasm.
On the other hand, billionaire chief of the Tesla electric car company and the founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, saw it as an opportunity for human beings to move from Earth to space. However, others present there were more interested to find out the ways to fight global climate change.
M. Night Shyamalan directed and co-wrote the movie. It will hit theaters on June 7.
