At the presidential inauguration on Monday, Beyonce drew wide recognition for wonderful rendition of the national anthem. However, now buzz has been going around that the superstar singer did not sing the song live.
Citing the Marine Corps Band’s spokesman, the ‘Times of London’ reported that Beyonce had decided to use the backing track that is usually recorded as a routine work before every live performance.
However, the band later backed off their earlier statement and said to know nothing if Beyonce faked singing at the ceremony. Captain Gregory Wolf, the spokesman for the band, said that they did not play live but they were not sure if the singer lip-synced the anthem or not.
However, President’s Own United States Marine Band’s spokeswoman Master Sergeant Kristin DuBois later confirmed that Beyonce did lip-sync. For any musicians, pre-recording crucial music is a standard procedure and it is not unusual for the musicians to use pre-recorded track. Moreover, cold weather makes it tough to handle delicate classical instruments.
DuBois said that except Beyonce, the whole band performed live during the ceremony. She also expressed her surprise after being ordered to pretend playing the instruments at the time of the national anthem. She also said to have no idea about who had made the decision but guessed that it might be Beyonce.
She also confirmed that the band performed live as they did for every inauguration ceremony since 1801. She said that the band members were so professional that they could perform under any condition.
Sophie Gilbert from Washingtonian said that seating just below the podium she was confirmed that the band was only pretending to play the instruments. She also pointed out that Beyonce posted her pictures with the Marine Corp Band members in a recording studio to her Istagram account just the day before the ceremony. So, it could be possible that the singer lip-synced the song.
Beyonce was also criticized in 2009 for lip-syncing at the Academy Awards ceremony.
