Christian Grey, the leading role in the movie ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, is undoubtedly one of the most desired roles in Hollywood. Today, it has been known that British actor Charlie Hunnam is the lucky man to play the role of Grey.
To get this role, the star of the TV series ‘Queer as Folk’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’, and ‘Byker Grove’, had to beat a string of actors.
Daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, Dakota Johnson, was cast as the movie’s female lead Anastasia Steele.
Almost after a year of speculation, the production at last found the leads for the movie. It will be the screen adaptation of the book ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
Author of the book, E L James, announced the cast news on her blog. She praised Hunnam as talented and stunning and called Jonson charming.
Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the movie. The artist-turned-director was also on the direction of ‘Nowhere Boy’, a John Lennon biopic. It will be released in August 2014.
Many actors including Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling, Alex Pettyfer, and Chris Hemsworth were linked to the Character of Grey. Rumors about the involvement of Hunnam to Grey’s character started last month.
A production manager first discovered Hunnam for the TV drama ‘Byker Grove’ in 1998. Besides acing in TV, he appeared in movies like ‘Cold Mountain’, ‘Children of Men’ and the latest chartbuster ‘Pacific Rim’.
The U.S. audience likely knows him best for the portrayal of Jax teller in ‘Sons of Anarchy’, a biker drama that has been running since 2008.
On the other hand, several actresses were also linked to the role of Steele including Johnson, Shailene Woodley, Alicia Vikander, and Kristen Stewart.
Johnson is a model and appears in small roles in movies like ‘The Five-Year Engagement’, ’21 Jump Street’, and ‘the Social Network’.
The story of the ‘Fifty Shades’ trilogy is based on the relationship between a wealthy entrepreneur and a college student.
