The ex-Canadian emissary said that Ben Affleck’s much-praised ‘Argo’ did not depict the role of Canada during the Iran hostage crisis. During the incident in 1979, he took great personal risk to protect the Americans. He said that if ‘Argo’ wins the Academy Awards in the category of the Best Picture, Affleck should say a few words about the role of Canada.

Ken Taylor, the ex-Canadian ambassador, expressed his dissatisfaction over the depiction of Canada’s role during the crisis. He said that ‘Argo’ portrayed Canada as only a meek observer of the heroic deeds of the CIA in rescuing the six staff members of the U.S. Embassy.

At the time of that critical moment, Taylor sheltered the Americans in his house and in the home of John Sheardown, his deputy. He persuaded the Canadian government to issue fake passports for the Americans and then, helped them to escape Tehran by arranging plane tickets.
