Google Science Fair Winner Brittany Wenger Touts Cancer Detecting Artificial Brain
Google Science Fair is a competition meant for 13-18 year-olds and was initiated for giving chance to youngsters for displaying their scientific achievements. This year the winner of the Fair was a 17-year-old girl Brittany Wenger.
She was awarded with the grand prize due to her success in making a cloud-based program that could almost impeccably diagnose the symptoms of breast cancer. The program showed 97.4% success in detecting cancerous tumors and 99.1% success in sensitivity to malignancy. If the software can be made available to the doctors, the rate of assessing invasive tumors will be lessened. She made the program to think like human brain and used it to detect tumors in the samples of breast tissue.
Wenger got $50,000 cash, a trip to Galapagos Island, and an opportunity of internship for a year. While asked about her future plans, Wenger said to study in computer science and then to join medical school in order to infuse technology in the medical sector.
