On Thursday, a man slashed his wrists before an appalled crowd outside the Rockefeller Center. The people were watching the ’Today’ show there. The man said that he had done that horrible act to get back at the IRS and those people who robbed him.
The man named Pak Chong Mar said the ‘Daily News’ that he had no other way than doing something desperate to fight the mighty IRS and its corruption. He was taken to the Bellevue Hospital.
Pak, 76, said that he could not pay his rent this month. According to him, if he had not fought back, the IRS would kill him anyway.
Pak came to New York from China in 1948. He amassed money by working as a waiter and running a grocery. After that, he made million dollars by buying stocks but he accused IRS of plundering his funds with the help of Scottrade and TD Ameritrade. The man also claimed to have proof of his claims back at his apartment.
However, Pak has a history of doing such horrific things at public. Police said that he chopped off three fingers of his left hand back in August 1995 in front of a crowd gathered for the Queens’ Hong Kong Dragon Board Festival. At that time, he was protesting his expulsion from his apartment in Brooklyn.
While cutting one of his wrists with a pocket knife, a person knocked it out of his hands. However, he pulled out another knife and started sawing his another wrist. However, a former city cop and current security guy of Lauer named Joseph Lasala tackled him.
Another former police turned private guard named Robert Kane helped Lasala to take Pak down. A tourist and one of the witnesses named Jossie Edwards said that everything happed really fast.
Pak is not likely to be charged with an offense because his did not attack or wound anyone except himself.
