Mary Leakey 100th birthday: A son on her adventuresome parenting
Today’s parents must be curious to know the parenting methods of Mary Leakey, the renowned paleoanthropologist. Today is the hundredth birthday of that famous person.
Mary Leakey was born as Mary Douglas Nicol on 6 Feb 1913, in London. She was prominent as a great hunter of early human fossils. Instead of hanging over or restraining her children, Ms. Leakey taught them how to deal with responsibilities early in life and fetched them out on mine sites from early years. Her son, Philip Leakey, who was taught walking at a mine site, talked about the scientist’s venturesome parenting style on her birthday. Modern moms can know about parenting more from the bio of Mary Leakey than any parenting guidance book. The eminent paleontologist did not hold up her job because of parenting.
Philip, 64, her youngest son, said that she gave them all choice as a mother because she believed in realizing something by experience. This gave him huge opportunity to get tremendous self-confidence and made him aware about responsibility at a tender age.
Google also honored this legendary woman through a Google Doodle.
