New Somali president faces al Shabaab threat

Sep 21, 2012 No Comments by

The suicide bombing of the group al Shabaab on Thursday showed that it still has the capacity to hit the capital of Somalia hard in spite of the presence of peacekeeping forces. The inured people were taken to a Mogadishu hospital for treatment.

The suicide bomb attack left more than a dozen people injured in the capital city of Somalia. The blast, which killed 15 people, took place at a local restaurant. This attack followed the one that took place a week earlier. One week ago, another suicide bomb blast shook the outside of a hotel where Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the newly elected President of Somalia, was holding a news conference.

Somalia has been going through conflicts for more than two decades. However, these attacks are challenging the security arrangements of the new President. The African forces are trying to curb al Shabaab but the militia group showed their power of infiltrating government-controlled areas without any major problem.
