Two tickets won the $648 million worth of Mega Millions jackpot drawn on Tuesday night.
One of the winning tickets was sold at a newsstand in Atlanta’s affluent Buckhead area. Young Soolee, the shop owner, will receive $1 million for selling a winning ticket. On the day of the drawing, she sold nearly 1,300 tickets at her store. The second winning ticket was sold at a San Jose gift shop. Like Soolee, the owner of this shop Thuy Nguyen will receive $1 million.
The jackpot amount was the second-biggest lottery amount of all time. The two winners will split the money between them. The winning odds were just 1 in 259 millions. The officials of Mega Millions said that 20 tickets won $1 million each and a number of tickets won lesser prizes. It means that 20 more millionaires were created after Tuesday’s drawing.
If Tuesday’s drawing had not produced any winner, the jackpot would have reached to $825 million, surpassing previous record of $656 million distributed among three winners in March 2012.
Tuesday’s winning numbers were 8, 20, 14, 17, 39, and 7.
