Will and Kate will attend the London premiere of ‘War Horse’

When Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse” premieres in Britain next month, real-life royalty will show up on the red carpet.

DreamWorks Pictures says that the premiere, scheduled for Jan. 8 at Odeon Leicester Square in London, will benefit the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, which supports military charities. William and his wife, the former Kate Middleton, are expected to attend.

Roughly 600 current and former military personnel and their families also have been invited to the premiere of the film, which is set in rural England and elsewhere in Europe during World War I. It’s based on the children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo, originally published in Britain in 1982. A theatrical version of the story, which eventually went to Broadway, debuted in London in 2007.

This will be the first film premiere for the royal couple. They were married last April.
Mirren wants to be Dr. Who

Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren says she’d like to make some her-story and become the first female to play the iconic role of Dr. Who.

“I don’t want to just be his sidekick,” Mirren, 66, told the U.K.’s Daily Star about suiting up as the lead in the long-running British sci-fi TV series. Matt Smith currently stars as the time-traveling doctor.

Perhaps she’ll get her chance. In November, it was announced that “Harry Potter” director David Yates and the BBC are planning to adapt the series into a major motion picture.
New scares for ‘Horror Story’

“American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy says fans will be shocked when the second season debuts next fall.

During a conference call with the news media last week, Murphy said he plans to announce more details in February about the second season and who will be starring in the series. That’s right, fans. There’s no more life for series stars Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton, who played the doomed couple the Harmons.

“The next year of the show — each season of the show — will be a different haunting,” Murphy said, according to the New York Times.

“So what you saw in the finale was the end of the Harmon house, and the second season of the show will be a brand-new home or building to haunt. Every season of the show will have a beginning, a middle and an end.”

Murphy said he has talked to some original cast members about participating in the second season, but McDermott and Britton are out as the Harmons. He added that clues about the new season were planted in the final three episodes of the season that just ended.

“American Horror Story” is up for two Golden Globes: best drama and best supporting actress ( Jessica Lange).
‘Joyful’ contest

Detroit native Judge Greg Mathis will be giving away tickets to the star-studded Hollywood premiere of the upcoming theatrical release “Joyful Noise” to fans who tune in to his show this week.

The film, starring Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah, is about two strong-willed women who attempt to overcome their differences so they can save a struggling gospel choir.

The premiere is scheduled for Jan. 9.

Viewers need to watch “Judge Mathis” and look for the word of the day, then go to www.judgemathistv.com to enter. The contest begins today and closes Friday.
